The Chicago Code's Mission by Rachel Decker
Sometimes, my dog Oliver is on a mission. His whole body unites with purpose: his tail points to the ceiling, his nose fuses to the ground, and his steps fall with spastic urgency. Nothing shall deter him! He will find that rotten cat, that scrumptious morsel, that scrap of cardboard, and he will eat it!
Now stay with me here.
I’ve never seen The Chicago Code. Apparently it’s a newish police drama on television. But I needn’t have done my homework to be challenged by Rachel Decker’s review of it. The show centers on a group attempting to relieve Chicago of it’s legacy of corruption, to restore it to justice. They are united by this mission that consumes their lives.
My own mission has been weighing on my mind lately. I think God is stirring something in me, a calling – I’m not sure yet. But I do wonder if my entire being is united by the mission of Christ, if my life is really consumed by it.
I don’t think it is. But I’m walking in that direction with spastic urgency.
